QUICK HEADLINES

📚 Tattered Cover finally turning the page

Bookselling behemoth Barnes & Noble is set to take over Denver's beloved Tattered Cover, ending its 53-year run as an independent bookstore. Tattered Cover, which has been battling financial woes for years, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last October and closed three locations. Barnes & Noble's winning bid of over $1.8 million will keep the Tattered Cover name alive and retain most of its staff. This acquisition marks Barnes & Noble's return to Denver and a rare move to acquire a multi-location bookstore, promising a blend of national power and local charm.

Denver just got a dose of adrenaline as the American Ninja Warrior Adventure Park opens today. Inspired by the NBC hit show, this 37,000-square-foot playground features iconic obstacles like the Spider Wall, Floating Bridge, and the infamous Warped Wall. There's also a 10,000-square-foot inflatable course and a special area for tiny ninjas under five.

Uchi in RiNo has quickly wowed us with their exquisite sushi. Starting today, National Sushi Day, Uchi fans can now enjoy the omakase experience at home with "omakase to-go" on UberEats. 🍕 The End of the End

Charlie Calogero Puma announced on Facebook that his iconic Congress Park pizza shop, Enzo's End, will close on June 30th after 28 years. Overwhelmed by an outpouring of support from longtime customers and former employees, Puma is considering selling the brand, recipes, and goodwill for $20,000. He's seeking a passionate entrepreneur to continue Enzo's legacy, keeping its thin-crust pizza alive in Denver. Any takers?

⚾️ Dodgers dominate Rockies in the opener 9-2

The Rockies’ NL West dreams were crushed as the Dodgers dominated with a 9-5 win at Coors Field. Manager Bud Black acknowledged L.A.'s power, even without Mookie Betts. Despite Cal Quantrill's solid start, the Rockies' bats stayed quiet until a futile ninth-inning rally. With Ohtani and Freeman leading, the Dodgers showcased their perennial dominance, leaving the Rockies searching for a spark.

💰 Denver’s budget battles

Monday's Denver City Council meeting saw heated debates over a $5 million homeless shelter contract and a proposed sales tax hike. Council members Amanda Sawyer and Stacie Gilmore criticized Mayor Mike Johnston's "All in Mile High" initiative for fast spending, but the contract passed 8-2. Meanwhile, Kevin Flynn's lone opposition couldn't stop the tax hike from advancing with a 9-1 vote, leaving the final decision to Denver voters in November. As tensions rise over budgets and public services, Denver's political landscape remains contentious.
