QUICK HEADLINES
🐝 Bringing the buzz back to Colorado
Did you know 20% of Colorado’s bumblebees are at risk of extinction? Not if Generation Wild has anything to say about it. They’re giving out 100,000 packets of native wildflower seeds across metro Denver to support local ecosystems and create healthy habitats for bumblebees. With over 56 million seeds in total, these packets can be picked up here.
LOCAL BUSINESSES
📚 An end to the indie bookstore era?
Barnes & Noble made a bid to purchase Tattered Cover which could help them climb out of bankruptcy, but needs board and U.S. bankruptcy court approval. If the sale goes through, it would mark the end of Tattered Cover’s era as a locally-owned indie bookstore, blending its spirit with Barnes & Noble’s resources.

💼 Work training for asylum seekers
Everyone wants to see Denver thrive and reduce homelessness. That’s why we know you’ll be pleased to hear the city launched the "WorkReady" program at the Community College of Denver, aiming to equip asylum seekers with the skills needed for legal employment and to fill labor shortages. With laptops from the AT&T Foundation and an influx of eager participants, this initiative not only offers a lifeline to immigrants, mainly from Venezuela, but also helps tackle Denver's pressing workforce and housing challenges.
💰 School budgets pass
Denver Public Schools has approved a whopping $1.5 billion budget for the upcoming school year, despite dropping enrollment and teacher layoffs. With an influx of immigrant students and a $1 billion bond measure on the horizon, DPS is tackling its financial and infrastructural challenges head-on, aiming to balance shrinking student numbers and escalating expenses. So, what’s next?
It goes through adjustments as part of the amended budget process in January.
