🗳 Get ready to vote, Denver! We have big decisions ahead. Alongside nearly a dozen statewide ballot measures, Denver's ballot on November 5 will feature eight local initiatives:
Collective Bargaining for City Employees: Aiming to give all city employees the right to unionize starting in 2026
Citizenship for Police and Firefighters: Removing the requirement for police/firefighter applicants to be U.S. citizens, allowing legal residents and DACA recipients to apply
Slaughterhouse Ban: Prohibiting slaughterhouses from 2026, with workforce retraining for former employees
Fur Ban: Banning most fur products from July 2025, with some exemptions
Denver Health Sales Tax Increase: A 0.34% sales tax hike to fund Denver Health
Elected Official Salary Approval: Removing the council's power to approve their own salary increases
Human Rights Cabinet Agency: Elevating the Department for Human Rights and Community Partnerships to a cabinet agency
Ballpark Improvement District: Creating a new district to fund improvements around Coors Field
⚖️ Denver City Council elected CouncilmemberAmanda Sandoval as the new president, succeeding Jamie Torres. Sandoval, representing northwest Denver, aims to tackle housing and zoning issues, while Diana Romero Campbell, newly elected as pro tem, brings nonprofit leadership experience to the role. Their appointments come as Denver faces critical challenges like affordable housing and homelessness.
🚙 Attention drivers: Prepare for increased traffic on Peña Boulevard over the next two weeks due to the E-470 widening project. Lane closures from 8 PM to 4 AM starting yesterday could worsen congestion on this critical route to Denver International Airport.
✈️ Denver International Airport has appointed Dave LaPorte as its new COO, promoting him from deputy COO with three decades of experience in airport operations, including senior roles at Southwest Airlines. LaPorte’s leadership comes as DIA prepares for future growth and innovation in aviation.
