RAPID REPORTS
🇺🇸 President Joe Biden announced yesterday he’s not running for a second term, backing VP Kamala Harris for the nomination. After a storied career and a pivotal 2020 comeback, Biden’s decision comes amid declining poll numbers and health concerns. Colorado Governor Jared Polis and Senator John Hickenlooper praised Biden’s legacy as the DNC gears up for a dramatic convention next month.
⚖️ Mayor Mike Johnston is set to showcase Denver's transformation from crisis to comeback. In today’s upcoming State of the City address at the Paramount Theatre, he’ll paint a picture of a city rebounding from homelessness and violence, with downtown buzzing back to life.
Key Points:
Crime Down, Car Theft Cut: Thanks to targeted strategies, crime stats are dropping.
Downtown Revival: Walk from Five Points to Coors Field, and you won't see a single tent—300 square blocks, encampment-free!
Affordable Living: Johnston dreams of a Denver where everyone can afford to live, work, and raise a family.
🦞 An extremely rare orange lobster nearly ended up as a meal in Pueblo, but now it's heading for fame at Denver's Downtown Aquarium. "Crush" , named after the Denver Broncos' legendary Orange Crush defense, is already a local celebrity. Crush will soon be part of the "Lurks" exhibit, after a 30-day quarantine.

🧠 Denver’s STAR program, which dispatches mental health professionals instead of police for certain emergencies, is winning praise but falling short on coverage. In 2023, STAR responded to just 50% of the 15,125 eligible calls, leaving thousands unaddressed.
By the Numbers:
Denver 911 answered over 1.35 million calls in 2023.
15,125 calls were eligible for a STAR response, but STAR only handled 7,657.
With only 30 team members and eight vans, STAR struggles to meet demand.
