RAPID REPORTS
🥵 Denver is preparing for the heatwave with cooling centers at all rec centers. Additionally, the city's property at 2601 W. 7th Ave. will be open Sunday from 4 to 8 PM as a cooling haven. Public libraries are also available for relief. Stay safe and cool!
🚕 Starting today, designated rideshare zones will be enforced between 18th and 21st Streets and Blake and Larimer Streets from 10 PM to 3 AM on weekends, with police ensuring safety and smooth traffic flow. This move is part of Mayor Mike Johnston's broader plan to reduce crime and boost safety in LoDo and Ballpark District.
🏨 Denver’s Landmark Preservation Commission has approved restoring and expanding the historic Rossonian Hotel in Five Points to feature a 150-seat restaurant, bar, and music lounge, preserving its historic charm that was once a hub for jazz legends.
🔄 A new poll shows Denverites feel their city is improving. Nearly 75% feel safer, though concerns about homelessness, housing affordability, and crime persist. Most residents appreciate city services and don't mind paying for them, though 35% find taxes "way too high." Mayor Mike Johnston's approval is up to 48%, with his efforts on homelessness being noted. The Denver School Board's reputation is improving, and the Denver Police Department's approval remains steady. Renters feel more financial strain than homeowners, but overall, Denver's economy is seen as better than 20 years ago. New residents have a more positive outlook compared to long-timers.
🛟 Denver's Alan Ordóñez tragically drowned at Chatfield Reservoir, marking one of 14 such incidents in Colorado state parks this year, tying a yearly record with Summer just starting. His story underscores the importance of water safety, even for skilled swimmers. It's a reminder to prioritize vigilance and life safety.
🇺🇸 With Kawhi Leonard out, Colorado's Derrick White will head to Paris for the Olympics, joining LeBron James, Joel Embiid, and Kevin Durant on Team USA.
